Today we started back at work on the house after a few weeks break from it for various reasons. In the 2 photos you can see all this debris on the ground. This was all stuffed under the eaves and when we removed the cover board it was jam packed full of grass and feathers and bird shit from many years of birds finding their way in there somehow and building nests. The wind seemed to swirl around so wherever I positioned myself I ended up covered in dust and bits of dry grass and after cleaning it all out had to head straight for the shower. A pretty unpleasant job and there is still another 3 sides of the house to go.
Last night we had an excellent bonfire with all the old timber we have removed from the house during renovations.
Here Fox is using a filler to cover the joins in the plaster sheets. In the "Game" it's called Stopping Up. The 2 Bedrooms and the new en suite now have all the plaster on the roof and walls.
Today I had the plumber finishing the plumbing in the en suite. He is a great bloke and I really enjoyed the day. You may also see there is now a floor in the en suite as well. For camera buffs this shot is with my 5D at 1600 ISO.
Today we were back at work on the house after not doing much for the last couple of weeks due to other commitments. After taking the bottom shot I was looking for a safe place for my camera and I ended up putting it in the new (unused and not connected) toilet and thought it made an interesting shot.
Here you see an ebay purchase being put to good use. I purchased this machine to lift the sheets of plaster up to the ceiling on the advise of Fox. Without it I reckon my back would be not feeling as good as it is tonight. By the way Fox took the 2 photographs,he gets a little cross if I don't give him photography credits. The sheet we are lifting here is about 3.7metres long.
We have found the chainsaw to be a useful tool in house renovation. Here is Fox cutting out an old Redgum stud. We had to reorder a couple of windows today as the old house is not that square anymore and things change as we go.Fox is a master at working things out when we come across a problem. Having fun with an old mirror. This mirror is a pretty nice shape and I am going to keep it for what I'm not sure. Yours truly learning the fine art of house renovating. Photography courtesy of Fox. I've started renovating my weatherboard farmhouse which is over 100 years old.
The first stage is gutting and replastering the bedrooms as well as putting in some new windows to let some light in. The house has been in my family for over 50 years and all my brothers and sisters grew up here. I havn't found any relics from the past yet but I reckon some of the mud wasp nests in the walls could be pretty old. |
